The ritual of tranquility: Why proper candle care makes the difference

A long day comes to an end, the lights are dimmed, and you light your favorite candle. But instead of relaxation, disappointment often follows: the candle smokes, the glass turns black, or a deep hole forms in the middle while valuable wax remains unused at the edge.
The problem: Without proper handling, you lose up to 40% of your candle's burn time. A "tunnel" in the wax causes the flame to eventually drown in its own wax, and the scent can no longer unfold.
The solution: With proper care, you protect your investment, maximize fragrance throw, and ensure a clean, safe burn. Here's how to unlock the full potential of your Artisanflame ritual.
The Golden Rule: The First Burn
Your candle has a memory. The first time you light it, it should burn until the entire wax pool is liquid to the edge of the glass. If you extinguish it too soon, the wax "remembers" this and will only burn down in a narrow tunnel next time. Patience here is rewarded with a longer burn time.
Why the Right Trim is Crucial
An untrimmed, long wick is the main reason for black soot on the candle glass and an unsteady flame that melts the wax unevenly. With a few simple steps, your fragrance experience remains pure and clean:
Clean Trimming: Always keep the wick at approx. 5 mm. It's best to wear gloves to protect your skin from soot particles and concentrated fragrance oils.
Proper Extinguishing: Do not blow out the candle, as the resulting smoke will mask the delicate aroma. Use a candle snuffer or the Artisanflame wooden lid (Link)
Important Note: Only place the lid on once the flame has already gone out. Do not touch the glass until it has completely cooled down to avoid burns.
Safety First
To ensure your moment of well-being remains safe, please observe these basic rules:
Supervision: Never leave burning candles unattended.
Location: Only use on fireproof surfaces and out of reach of children, pets, and curtains.
Drafts: Avoid to prevent flickering and soot.
